India on Friday lodged a powerful protest with Pakistan relating to the latter’s plans to carry “basic elections” on June 7, 2026, for the “Gilgit-Baltistan Meeting”, within the Indian territories illegally and forcibly occupied by Pakistan,.

The MEA mentioned in an announcement: “The Authorities of India reiterated its well-known place that all the Union Territories of J&Ok and Ladakh, together with the so-called ‘Gilgit-Baltistan’, are integral and inalienable elements of India because of full, authorized and irre­vo­cable accession of J&Ok to India in 1947.”

“The Authorities of India additional emphasised that such endeavours by Pakistan can’t masks the underlying problems with grave human rights violations, political repression, financial exploitation and denial of freedom in territories illegally occupied by Pakistan,” it mentioned.
