Republic TV reporter, cameraman arrested for filming Iranian ship search bail in Kochi

A Republic TV reporter and cameraman, who had been arrested below the Official Secrets and techniques Act for allegedly trying to report visuals of the Iranian navy vessel, IRIS Lavanapproached a court docket in Kochi on Monday in search of bail.
After listening to their bail pleas, the First Class Justice of the Peace Court docket reserved its verdict for Tuesday.
The vessel has been docked on the Southern Coil Berth of the Cochin Port since March 4, within the wake of tensions in West Asia that broke out following assaults on Iran by the US and Israel.
Republic TV reporter Sankar C G and cameraman S Mani, together with their speedboat driver, Vijaya Kumar P, had been arrested on Saturday whereas trying to report visuals of the vessel.
They had been arrested below Sections 3(1) and 5 of the Official Secrets and techniques Act by the Harbour police. The FIR alleged that they trespassed into the Southern Coil Berth of the port and tried to report photos of the vessel and flow into them, allegedly posing a risk to nationwide safety. The FIR mentioned the ship has been anchored on the port as a part of a diplomatic choice by India. The accused had been then remanded in judicial custody.
Advocate Luke J Chirayil on Monday argued that Sections 3 and 5 of the Official Secrets and techniques Act couldn’t be slapped on the arrested individuals, and that the media had already reported the day prior to this in regards to the anchoring of the Iranian ship. Police couldn’t get better any movies or photographs from the arrested individuals, he claimed.
