NEW DELHI: A Delhi courtroom Tuesday sentenced Kashmiri separatist and Dukhtaran-e-Millat chief Asiya Andrabi to life imprisonment for conspiring to commit against the law in opposition to the State.Extra periods choose Chander Jit Singh additionally sentenced two of Andrabi’s associates, Sofi Fehmeeda and Nahida Nasreen, to 30 years’ imprisonment within the case. The courtroom awarded life sentences to Andrabi underneath Part 18 (punishment for conspiracy) of the UAPA and underneath Sections 120B (felony conspiracy) and 121 A of the erstwhile IPC. Part 18 of UAPA says, The courtroom stated the sentences will run concurrently. The three had been sentenced on Jan 14, following which the NIA had sought life imprisonment for Andrabi, saying she had waged conflict in opposition to India, and a stern message was required to be despatched that conspiring in opposition to the State would invite the harshest penalty. In its 286-page order, the courtroom stated Andrabi and her associates hatched a conspiracy for the secession of Kashmir from India. Rejecting the defence’s submissions, the courtroom held “treating the convicts with leniency will quantity to infusing a recent lease of life and vigour within the spirit of convicts which goals at secession of an integral a part of India.”
