CPM fields RG Kar protest faces for Bengal elections | India Information
KOLKATA: 4 distinguished CPM functionaries who turned faces of protests after the 2024 rape-murder of a resident physician at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical School and Hospital will contest the West Bengal meeting elections in April. Outgoing Rajya Sabha MP Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya, pupil activist Dipsita Dhar, youth functionary Kalatan Dasgupta and rising Left face Minakshi Mukherjee have been fielded from Jadavpur, North Dum Dum, Panihati and Uttarpara, respectively. Former Kolkata mayor Bhattacharya will contest from Jadavpur — a south Kolkata neighbourhood that emerged as a nerve centre of the “Reclaim the Evening” protests after the killing of the 31-year-old physician. “Bengal was as soon as a protected haven for ladies, but it surely was destroyed previously few years of the Mamata Banerjee’s govt,” Bhattacharya stated. “I anticipate Jadavpur will give us resounding help, rejecting divisive politics and communal traces which can be the power of each BJP and Trinamool.”

Left Entrance chairman Biman Bose introduced the alliance’s first listing of 192 candidates on Monday. One other 50 seats had been allotted to allies. Candidates for the remaining constituencies can be finalised in three to 4 days, Bose stated. Amongst allies, Rajib Kar of Revolutionary Socialist Celebration (RSP) will contest from Chhatna, a constituency in Bankura district, whereas Samar Hazra of Marxist Ahead Bloc will contest from Jamalpur in Purba Bardhaman district. Dhar is contesting from North Dum Dum, a densely populated suburb of Kolkata. Mukherjee, a recognisable younger face of the Left, will contest from Uttarpara, an industrial city in Hooghly district.
