No negligence, misuse of information, offensive questions: Registrar Common to Census officers | India Information

Negligence or misuse of information, obstruction of the train, and deliberately posing any offensive or improper query earlier than the residents: These are among the offences that officers taking part within the upcoming Census have been warned towards by the Registrar Common of India (RGI).

In a contemporary reminder, the RGI has made it clear that these are punishable offences, attracting as much as three years’ imprisonment underneath the Census Act.

In a communication despatched on March 17 to all states, Registrar Common & Census Commissioner Mritunjay Kumar Narayan listed the penalties prescribed underneath Part 11 of the Census Act, 1948, which vary from a Rs 1,000 penalty to a few years’ imprisonment, or each.
“Any Census officer, or any individual lawfully required to help within the taking of the Census, who refuses to carry out duties assigned underneath the Act…or who hinders or obstructs one other individual from discharging such duties, can face authorized motion. The legislation additionally covers those that fail to train ‘affordable diligence’ in finishing up directions associated to Census work,” it mentioned.

“If any census officer deliberately asks offensive or improper questions… they are often prosecuted,” it added.
