Dalit teen overwhelmed to dying in Uttarakhand’s Tehri Garhwal over inter-caste friendship

New Tehri: An 18-year-old Dalit youth was allegedly overwhelmed to dying and his pal severely injured over his friendship with a minor lady from an higher caste group within the Pratapnagar block right here, police mentioned on Monday.

The deceased, Ketan Lal, was a resident of Deval village. His injured pal, Diwakar Dimri, was admitted to the district hospital in Baurari.

Based on a grievance lodged by the Ketan’s father, Dhanpal Lal, the incident occurred on Sunday evening in Kholgarh village.

Ketan had reportedly been in a friendship with a lady from Kholgarh for the previous six months.

On Sunday at round 11 pm, the lady known as Ketan on his cell phone and requested him to return to her village. Ketan went to Kholgarh with Diwakar Dimri.

Once they each arrived, members of the lady’s household locked them each in a room and assaulted them with sticks, the police mentioned.

On Monday morning, the lady’s father known as Dhanpal Lal to tell him about his son’s situation and requested him to take him again.

Dhanpal discovered his son coated in blood and rushed him to a group well being centre in Chaund Lambgaon the place he succumbed, the police mentioned.

Irate locals and the household initially refused to assert the physique from the hospital and demanded instant motion in opposition to the assaulters.
